The North American F-100 Supersabre served the USAF from 1954 to 1971 and the ANG until 1979. The F-100 commonly referred to as the “Hun”, a shortened version of “one hundred” was the first US fighter capable of attaining supersonic speed in level flight. The Hun was used extensively as close-air-support in South Vietnam.
Prior to belonging to the 188th TFG of the Arkansas ANG aircraft 55-3616 c/n 223-298 was the property of the 20th TFW/ 77th TFS that had been stationed at RAF Wethersfield. In 1969 the 77th and 20th moved to RAF Upper Heyford and transitioned to the F-111. Prior to receiving the F-100D in 1972 the 188th was designated 188th TRG (Tactical Reconnaissance Group) but with the “Huns” came the new designation 188th TFG “Flying Razorbacks”. They flew the F-100D until 1979 when they transitioned to the F-4C
